National Reconciliation Week at the Arriba Group

27 May – 3 June 2024

National Reconciliation Week holds a profound significance for all Australians, serving as a pivotal moment to explore our shared past, diverse cultures, and collective achievements. It’s a time to reflect on our journey towards reconciliation and to contemplate the roles each of us can play in fostering unity and understanding across the nation.

The theme for National Reconciliation Week in 2024, “Now More Than Ever”, serves as a reminder that the struggle for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will — and must — continue, regardless of the circumstances.

There have been many moments in Australia’s reconciliation journey that make us want to turn away. However, when faced with division, the worst action we can take is to disengage or separate. Now, more than ever, we must address the unresolved matters of reconciliation.

We know that the 6.2 million Australians who voted YES are committed to better outcomes for First Nations people, and are with us. Supporters of reconciliation must speak out to protect and uphold the rights of First Nations peoples, to denounce racism wherever it appears, and to actively amplify the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples throughout the continent.

Now more than ever, the work continues. Whether in treaty negotiations, truth-telling, understanding the history, or educating ourselves, we must persist in these efforts.

Now more than ever, we need reconciliation.
