At Arriba Group, the mental wellbeing of our employees is our first priority and so we are constantly looking at ways we can support them. As part of our Flourishing at Work series, we recently held a webinar that focused on preventing burnout in the workplace. Burnout is a state of physical, mental, and emotional exhaustion caused by prolonged stress and pressure at work. At Arriba Group, we believe that by taking proactive steps, employees can prevent burnout and thrive in their professional lives. Here are some practical strategies from our recent ‘Flourishing at Work’ session:
Recognise the Signs
Understanding the signs and symptoms of burnout is the first step to prevention. These include feeling exhausted, detached, and less effective at work. Awareness allows for early intervention.
Take Regular Breaks
Stepping away from your desk and taking short breaks throughout the day can significantly reduce stress. A walk around the block or a proper lunch break can help you recharge and stay focused.
Prioritise Self-Care
Make self-care a priority both at work and at home. Engage in activities that promote your well-being, such as exercise, hobbies, and spending time with loved ones. Remember, taking care of yourself is not a luxury—it’s a necessity.
Set Boundaries
Establish clear boundaries between work and personal life. Avoid checking emails outside of work hours and ensure you have time to relax and unwind. This separation helps maintain a healthy work-life balance.
Practice Mindfulness
Incorporate mindfulness practices into your daily routine. Techniques like deep breathing, meditation, or simply being present in the moment can reduce stress and improve mental clarity.
Seek Support
Don’t hesitate to reach out for support if you’re feeling overwhelmed. Talk to your manager, use the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for confidential counseling, or connect with colleagues for peer support.
Find What Energises You
Identify activities or tasks that energise you and incorporate them into your day. Whether it’s listening to music, journaling, or having meaningful conversations, small actions can uplift your spirits and prevent burnout.
Ongoing Support
At Arriba Group Australia, we offer various resources to support your well-being. Access our Wellbeing Hub and Wellbeing Tracker to monitor your progress and find additional support materials.
Take the Burnout Assessment
If you’re curious about your own burnout risk, consider taking a Burnout Assessment. This tool can provide valuable insights into your stress levels and suggest personalised strategies for improvement.
By implementing these strategies, you can create a healthier, more balanced work environment. Let’s work together to prevent burnout and promote a positive, supportive workplace for all.
